Horse Gram Dal

Horse Gram Dal

The most healty dal....says we can get power like a horse once u eat tht....

Horse gram 1 cup soaked overnite

Turmeric 1 / 2 tsp

chilli pwd 1/2 tsp

salt as per taste

coconut 2 tbsp

jeera 1/2 tsp

small onion few

garlic 2

mustard seeds 1/2 tsp

Cook dal with haldi and chilli pwd in a cooker till cooked...Grind coconut with jeera small onion 2 garlic into paste and add to the dal and give a boil..saute small onion add mustard when crackle temper to the gravy and add corainder leaf//

Ready to serve with rice or roti

Fish Fry

Pomfret : 1

turmeric : 1/2 tsp

chilli pwd : 1/2 tsp

Pepper : 1/2 tsp

salt as per taste

lime juice

method.. Easy and simple marination of fish with all the ingredients and fry the fish with oil...

thts the quick and easy method...

opt : can add ginger garlic paste , fish fry masala....


Vegetable curry.

VEgetable curry

Capsicum - 1Carrots - 1 , potatoes 2, beans - few, cauliflower - 4 to 5, green peas - 1/2 cup, onion 1, ginger garlic paste 1/2 tsp , 1, halidi 1/2 tsp , chilli pwd 1/2 tsp, corainder pwd 1tsp, jeera 1/2 tsp fennel seeds 1/2 tsp, garam masala 1/2 tsp, curry leaf, curd 1/2 cup cashew optional few , tomato...


Cut all the vegetables in cubes and in a pan add oil add jeera fennel seeds onion fry well add ginger garlic paste and curry leaf tomato and make a paste add the vegetables and fry until the masala is coated add haldi corainder pwd, chilli pwd , garam masala,and cook the vegetables..Mix curd with cashewnut and grind well into paste....add the curd and give the gravy a boil ..garnish with corainder leaf ...serve with chappati....tates like kurma but with no coconut...

optional instead of curd can mix milk and give it a boil....tastes gud

my healthy version of kurma.....

Lime Rice./.
Cooked Rice - 2 cups prefer cold rice
Haldi -- 1/2 tsp
peanuts 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
curry leaf
corainder leaf few for dccoration
oil - 1 tsp
lime or lemon juice of 1 ..
green chilli 2 or 3
redchilli 1
method : Heat a pan add oil and mustard seeds when crackle add curry lead, red chilli green chilli peanuts and let the peanuts cook ...add haldi and slowly add the cooked rice and mix till all the rice is coated ..add lime juice on the rice and mix well , corainder leaf for garnishing and salt per taste.
yummy like rice like the way they serve as prasadam in temples is ready....try using basmati rice for a change ...tastes different...

Carrot, Potato, Vellarika ( yellow Cucumber) Pumkin , raw Banana, long beans, Yam, bittergord

curd, turmeric, salt as per taste, coconut grated curry leaf, coconut oil, green chilli,

method cut all vegetables in length wise like french fries and cook all with little water till all veges are soft....grind curd with curry, leaf green ,chilli...i grind coconut little fine as the normal recipe is just crush the coconut...add the coconut to the veges and cook well...give it a boil and remove from flame and add coconut oil and curry leaf

serve with sambar or rasam.


Cucumber vellirika or chow chow ( chayote) : 1cup (diced) Toor Dal :1/2cup Turmeric powder :1/2tsp Red chilli powder ,

A very simple but tasty gravy..a family famous has no coconut so even cholestrol free

method :

Boil turdal with with cucumber , haldi, redchilli powder , salt, when cooked well boil well saute small onions cut dark brown and add to the curry....add curry leaf and at the end coconut oil....

tasty family curry ready serve with spicy thoran like bindi or baigan ..

Cajun Potatoes...

Potatoes.... 5
garlic 1 tsp
redchilli pwd 1 tsp

cajun mix pwd or

pepper 1/2 tsp
thyme 1/2 tsp
oregano 1/2 tsp

heat oil in a pan add garlic add potatoes fry well.. add chilli pwd or paprika, add cajun mix and saute until the pototes are golden brown

optional can make in oven ...

Mango Pickle :

Mango . 1

chilli pwd 1 tsp

salt to taste

haldi 1/2 tsp

fenugreek pwd 1/2 tsp

Hing 1/2 tsp

Gingelly oil  - 3 tbsp

Cut mango into small cubes.. mix mango with chilli powder and salt .. heat gingelly oil , mix hing, turmeric, Fenugreek pwd add in the mango the end heat little oil and add when cold and mix all well with the mango pieces and keep in glass jar

homemade pickle ready ...used within 3 to 4 days

Cauliflower home style :

Cauliflower 1 whole shredded into fine pieces

Mustard seeds 1 tsp

urad dal - 1/2 tsp

turmeric 1/2 tsp

green chilli 2 or 3

coconut 1/2 cup

curry leaf few strands

Heal oil in a pain add mustard seeds when crackle add urad dal and cauliflower and turmeric cook it mixie crush coconut greenchilli and curry leaf ..and add at the end and cook little till raw smell of coconut goes... serve with sambar...

chicken stew

Chicken Stew with garlic Bread

Chicken Breasts - 5

onions 1

Potatoes - 2

Carrots - 1

Garlic - 1/2 tsp

tomatoes 2


chillipwd 1tsp

paprika 1/2 tsp

salt pepper to taste

parsley leaf

canned tomato 1/2 cup

Grill chicken breasts with salt and pepper till half done. in in soup pan or cooker add onion fry till pink in color add garlic potatoes, carrot , chilli powder bayleaf, parika, salt and pepper and cook till the veges cook...add chicken and boil for an hour....add tomatoes and canned tomatoes and cook....

yummy stew ready for cold winter nite!!!!

Minestrone Soup


Olive oil - 1 tsp
onion : 1
Tomato :
canned tomato : 1/2 cup
cabbage shredded 1/2 cup
pasta sauce - 2 tbsp
carrot - 1
Potato - 1
Celery - 1 stalk
cheese to decorate
salt and pepper to taste
oregano - 1 tsp
cannellini white beans... 1/2 cup

method :

Heat olive oil add onion fry till pinkish then add vegetables carrot , potato, celery,oregano, cabbage and the beans fry for sometime.. add canned tomato , cut fresh tomatoes and boil the soup until the vegetables and the beans cook....add pasta sauce salt and pepper. Garnish with cheese and serve with garlic bread..

optional cal add beans, peas, chicken breasts...


Papadum Curry....

my grandmas recipe ...Fry papadums and break them....Coconut 1/2 cupdhaniya seeds 1 tspsmall onions a few hand fulljeera 1 tspginger small piecegrind all the above ingredients with little water with curry leaf and green chillis... boil the coconut well till the raw smell goes away.. saute small onion curry leaf and add to the gravy and add papads which fried earlier and boil and its ready to eat with ghee and rice....

VADA CURRY my moms speciality
Vada means a small deep fried dumplings made from Lentils..Ingredients:Chana Dal 1 cup1 medium onionGreen chillis 2 to 3Soak the Chana dal for 2 to 3 hrs and grind with greenchilli and mix cut onion and deepfry..Gravy:Spices required:Fennel seeds 1 tspCinnamon 1 small stickcloves 2 to 3Dry MasalaChilli powder 1tsphaldi 1/2 tspsaltCoconut grated..1/2 cupTomataos 1 mediumgarlic 2 to 3Heat oil in a pan saute the spices the add garlic and onion and fry till golden brown.when done add tomatoes and make a gravy add dry masalas .Grind coconut and little fennel seeds together into paste. Add to the gravy and bring it to a boil when done add the vadas which was prepared earlier and cook for 2 to 3 minsNotes: Best gone with itly and Doza

Ingredients : cabbage 1 small ginger 1 inchgreen or red chilli( fresh)saunf 1/2 tsphaldi 1/4tspchilli pwd1/2 tspgaram masala1/2 tspsalt"oilMethodheat oil in a pan, add saunf and then greesn chilli and fry then add cabbage, haldi, chillipwd,and salt and cook till done then add garam masala at the end .Tipstastes good with chappati

My version of easy ans simple chicken curry chettinad

Ingredients:Chicken 1 kg cut into medium pieces1 big Onion,garlic 5 to 6 ginger grated, green chillis
Spices : Fennel seeds (saunf) pepper few pods, Cardamon 2 to 3 roast dry and powder itDrymasala: 1 tsp chill pwd2 tsp
corainder pwd1 tsp haldi 1/2 tsp, Jeera 1/2 tsp

Heat oil in cooker add jeera,greenchilli, Cardamon,onion ginger garlice paste. Add the chicken ..then add spices pwd . curry leaf and salt.
This goes really well with chapathi and rice .

Kadai Paneer
Paneer 2 cups cut into piecesCapsicum 1 big one2 medium Tomatosgreechillis 4Kasuri methi 2 tspCurd 2 tbspSpices required: dry roast and pwd the masalaCorainder seeds 1 tspcloves 3 to 4DrymasalaTandori Masala 1 tsp chill pwd 1 tspcorainder pwd 1 tsphaldi 1/2 tsp
Marinate the paneer with dry masala and curd. Heat ghee in frying pan add cloves greenchilli, capsicum cook till done add paneer and tomatoes then add chilli, corainder, haldi and fry ..then add spices pwd and kasuri methi leaf. It takes 10 minutes to cook.turn of the heat.This goes really well with chapathi and fried rice .Notes: Can cook in ghee instead of oil to get extra flavor.

kottu paratha

A dish famous in chennai saravana bhavan and ananda bhavan..easy dish made in 1/2 hr ...reminds me of my office days when we girls used to hog after 4 during our tea brks...Parotta 3 .. i used store brought..onion - 2 cut into piecesginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsptomato - 2capsicum - 1 cut into pieceschilli pwd - 1/2 tspTurmeric - 1/2 tspGaram masala - 1/2 tspgreen chilli - 3corainder leaf to decorate...i love them soooo muchTAdka..Cumin seed - 1/2 tspFennel seed - 1/2 tspHeat oil in a pan add jeera saunf and onions and capsicum fry well till it cooks then add Ginger garlic paste and cook well ..add tomatoes and make a nice masala out of it...tomatoes when cooked add the masalas and the parathas and fry well ..when ready garnish with corainder leaf .salt to tasteEnjoy!!!

Rai 1 tsp.Heat oil in frying pan add Rai, red chillies & onion fry until the onion starts to turn light brown. Now add ginger garlic cut pieces add curry leaves then add the chilli, corainder, haldi and fry ..then add crabs cover and cook after sometime when the crab changes the color add tomatos It takes 10 minutes to cook. Add spice pwd , cook for 1-2 minutes and turn of the heat.This goes really well with rice .Notes and TipsDo not cook for long after adding the spice powder. You can use coconut oil fry seasoning instead of any other oil to add extra flavor.
